FlockThere was born out of the friction experienced when Dan and Sanjeev met regularly to discuss the mobile space and brainstorm. One of us habitually on time, the other habitually late, we found ourselves asking the same questions each time we met: “Where are you? How much longer will you be? Where exactly are we meeting? Did I get the day/time right?” (if arriving early or the other is really late), etc.

And the repeated use of band-aid solutions just didn't really remove the friction: SMS, phone calls, and even the existing mobile apps didn't cut it. Given our combined deep expertise with mobile, we decided to create a solution optimized for meeting up with friends, family, or anybody with a phone number or email address. Our goal was and is to eliminate the need to ever ask those questions again: where are you, how much longer til you get here, etc. We also realized that there is a dearth of well-designed mobile-social apps with real purpose and utility.

Dan Nguyen

Dan's passion and career is product–the eternal journey of unearthing unmet needs, envisioning the initial solution, and teaming with great people and the market to shape the solution and build the business. Initially a developer, he switched to the product and business side early in his career, which spans management and executive roles with Procter & Gamble, Sun Microsystems, Internet startups including co-founding a social network before there was such a term. He was most recently VP of Product Management at the early innovator of consumer mobile, Openwave. Dan holds a B.S. Engineering from Cornell University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Favorite Uses of FlockThere: when catching up with friends over lunch or coffee, meeting up friends' families at places like Gilroy Gardens, Tech Museum, or the California Academy.

Sanjeev Bhalla

He holds a Bachelor of Technology Degree (B.Tech) from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, a Master of Science (M.S.) in Computer Science from University of Wisconsin, Madison and has obtained his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Northeastern University.
